This section provides a basic overview of the processes involved in size reduction.

There are many different names that are used to describe particle size reduction: milling, grinding, granulating, comminuting, etc. In the case of pharmaceuticals as defined in SUPAC (Scale Up and Post Approval Changes), Fluid Air, Inc. machines are impact mills of the hammer conventional subclass, or screening mills of the rotating impeller subclass.
